Welcome

Eden Valley, recognised as being Cumbria’s best kept secret.

Centrally situated for access to some of the country’s more famous beauty spots, the Lake District and the Yorkshire Moors is where you will discover the Eden Valley, recognised as being Cumbria’s best kept secret.  It is in this idyllic setting that we welcome you to the Eden Vale Inn in the delightful village of Bolton near Appleby, a traditional English pub which now offers a full range of social activities in addition to a menu and wine list which would impress in many a good restaurant.

With mountain paths, riverside strolls, golf, sailing, canoeing, watersports, fishing, cycling along perhaps the C2C cycle route and of course sight seeing, the Eden Valley is an area of ever increasing popularity and reached with ease through spectacular countryside from the A1 and M6 motorways. The region’s main town is the very attractive Appleby which straddles the River Eden and where the tree lined main street links the castle and the church. Time appears to have stood still in Appleby, a fact highlighted every June when the Horse Fair keeps alive a 300 year tradition.

So it is in this enviable setting and only five minutes from Appleby that we find the captivating village of Bolton, a popular base for both those intent on enjoying the immediate surroundings.  For those who may be a little more adventurous the Pennine Way and the Pennine Bridlepath pass through the nearby village of Dufton with its unusual fountain in the centre and High Cup Nic on the doorstep.  Incidentally, the Pennine Way is 268 miles across the rugged backbone of England and, they say, a walk that everyone should do during their lifetime.  After you!

A little further afield Ambleside and Windermere are reached via the Kirkstone Pass and yes you have heard that name before, it is the title of one of William Wordsworth’s poems. The lake steamers of Ullswater are within easy travelling distance.  There is so much to do and so little time.

Whether driving, walking, sailing, cycling etc., life in Eden Valley can be exhausting so where better to relax and re-charge the batteries than the Eden Vale Inn at Bolton. Enjoy a locally produced beer perhaps in this converted old farmhouse full of rustic charm, and how about a delicious snack or maybe a superb meal. During the winter thaw out in front of our log fire, during the summer enjoy the fresh air in our beer garden.  Certainly, whenever you visit you will not want to leave the Eden Vale Inn and there is no reason why you should as there are comfortable en-suite guest rooms where, after an energetic day, you can enjoy a restful night before a great breakfast followed by another superb day in the Eden Valley.
